Nice lives on tourism, health care, public services and the tech companies of the Côte d’Azur, and many of its residents work across the border in Monaco. Here is when a CV photo makes sense, which style fits which employer, what Nice studios charge, and how to get a natural photo without booking a session.

Do you need a photo on your CV in Nice?

Legally, no. Under article L1221-6 of the French Labour Code, an employer may only ask for information that has a direct and necessary link with the job or with your professional skills. Article L1132-1 adds that no one may be excluded from a recruitment process because of their physical appearance, among other grounds. The law also allows employers to review applications anonymously (article L1221-7), but does not make it compulsory.

So a photo is your choice, not a requirement. If you add one, it should be a professional, recent portrait, not a holiday picture. Our guide to professional headshots in France covers format, placement and what recruiters expect.

You will also use the photo beyond the CV: on LinkedIn, and on job portals such as France Travail, Indeed, APEC for managerial roles or Welcome to the Jungle. Use the same portrait everywhere, so recruiters recognise you.

If you apply in Monaco, remember that it is a separate state with its own labour rules: follow the instructions in each ad. Monaco’s statistics institute (IMSEE) counted more than 16,000 private-sector employees living in Nice at the end of 2025, 27% of the total, making Nice the first place of residence of people working in the Principality.

What CV photo style works in Nice

According to Insee, the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur had about 232,000 jobs in 2023. Trade, transport and services account for 53.9% of them, and public administration, education, health and social care for 32.3%. Industry weighs only 5.7%.

The largest employers reflect this mix. The CHU de Nice, the university hospital, says it has 9,000 staff, and Université Côte d’Azur counts more than 32,000 students and 3,500 staff. Invest in Côte d’Azur, the regional investment agency, reports 75,000 tourism jobs and 11 million tourists a year on the Côte d’Azur, and more than 23,000 jobs in software and IT across the Côte d’Azur, home of the Sophia Antipolis technology park. In Monaco, hospitality and restaurants employed almost 9,000 private-sector staff in 2025, and finance and insurance 4,621, according to IMSEE.

Whatever the sector, keep a head-and-shoulders crop, a friendly expression and a photo less than a year old. Sun and sea make tempting backdrops in Nice, but a beach photo reads as a holiday snapshot. For colours and fabrics, see what to wear for a professional headshot.

A CV photo without a photographer

If the deadline is tonight, or you have just moved to the Riviera, LinkPro turns your phone into a studio:

  1. Take 8 guided selfies. Face detection on your device checks distance, angle and light live.
  2. Direct your shoot. Choose your field, a studio or office backdrop and a formal or business casual outfit: formal for a Monaco bank, business casual for a Sophia Antipolis start-up.
  3. Get your headshots in seconds and pick the most natural one.
  4. Let friends or colleagues vote with a poll link before you apply.

Your first session is free: 3 watermarked previews, no account needed. To keep a headshot, buy that single headshot in high definition, without watermark, as a one-time purchase with no subscription, or choose LinkPro Unlimited, a weekly subscription with unlimited sessions and restyles that you can cancel anytime. LinkPro is a web app: open it in your browser at app.linkproapp.ai, on your phone or a computer, in English, French, German and Italian.

Be strict with the result. It must look natural and like you today, with your features, hair and glasses. In Germany, where CV photos are far more common, a Federal Employment Agency adviser guide warns that AI-edited photos can look artificial. For a side-by-side comparison, read AI headshot vs photographer. A LinkPro photo cannot be used for a passport or ID card, which require biometric photos.

Your selfies are not kept on our servers after generation, your headshots are stored on your device, and your images are never sold or used to train AI models. You can delete your account and photos at any time; details are in our privacy policy.

I live in Nice and apply for a job in Monaco: what changes?

Monaco is a separate state with its own labour rules, so follow each job ad. You will not be alone: Monaco's statistics institute counted more than 16,000 private-sector employees living in Nice at the end of 2025, 27% of the total. Hospitality and finance are large employers there, so a polished, formal photo is a safe choice.

Can I use an AI headshot for a job in Nice?

Nothing in the Labour Code addresses it, but the photo must look natural and show you as you are today. Pick the most realistic result, keep your features, hair and glasses, and never use it for a passport or ID card, which require biometric photos.
