CV photo in Marseille: prices, studios and tips

Marseille is a port city, a hospital and university city, and an aerospace hub on its western edge. A CV photo for a shipping group’s head office is not quite the one for a hospital post or a tourism job by the Vieux-Port. Here is when a photo makes sense, which style fits which employer, what local photographers charge, and a faster alternative.
Do you need a photo on your CV in Marseille?
Legally, no. No French law requires a photo on a CV. Service-Public, the French administration’s official information site, states that the information requested from a candidate “must only allow their skills to be assessed”, and it lists physical appearance among the 25 grounds of discrimination prohibited at work, recruitment included. Indeed’s French career guide puts it simply: a CV photo is “in no way an obligation”.
So the photo is your decision. If you add one, make it a recent, professional head-and-shoulders portrait; if you have no good photo, leave it out rather than cropping a holiday picture. The national rules (law, format, placement, data protection) are in our guide to professional headshots in France.
If you are moving to Marseille from abroad, apply the French habit to French-language CVs sent through LinkedIn, Indeed, APEC or France Travail. For English-language applications to international shipping or industrial groups, follow the ad. Either way, use the same photo on your CV and your LinkedIn profile, which recruiters will check.
What CV photo style works in Marseille
According to Insee’s 2023 census, the city of Marseille had 886,040 inhabitants and 369,021 jobs:
- 50.7% of jobs were in commerce, transport and services, and 38.7% in public administration, education, health and social work, a high share for a large city.
- Industry accounted for only 4.9% within the city limits, but Airbus says its Marignane site, west of Marseille, is the third-largest industrial site in France.
- Managers and professionals (cadres) held 24.2% of local jobs, against 37.1% in Lyon and 35.2% in Toulouse: many roles are in operations, care and services rather than head offices.
- Unemployment (census definition, ages 15 to 64) fell from 17.7% in 2017 to 13.5% in 2023.
The port is the other key. The Port of Marseille Fos handled 74 million tonnes of goods in 2025 and, with more than 2.6 million cruise passengers, calls itself France’s leading cruise port. CMA CGM has its headquarters in the 147-metre CMA CGM tower in Arenc, inside Euroméditerranée, a 480-hectare development planned for one million square metres of offices and business premises.
| Sector | Typical employers | Outfit | Background |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shipping, logistics, port | CMA CGM, port and logistics companies in Euroméditerranée and Fos | Blazer with a plain shirt or blouse, tie optional | Neutral grey or white, or a light office |
| Hospitals, public sector, education | AP-HM (the university hospital), local authorities, universities and schools | Sober and neat: plain shirt or blouse, a jacket for management roles | Plain and light; approachable rather than corporate |
| Aerospace and industry | Airbus at Marignane and its suppliers | Blazer without a tie, or a smart shirt | Neutral studio |
| Tourism, retail, hospitality | Cruise, hotel and retail employers | Smart casual, a warm and open expression | Light background, or a softly blurred outdoor setting |
Whatever the sector, keep a head-and-shoulders crop, a friendly expression and a photo less than a year old. Marseille’s light suits outdoor portraits, but avoid harsh midday sun, which creates hard shadows. Our guide on what to wear for a professional headshot goes into colours and fabrics.

Your selfies are not kept on our servers after generation, your headshots are stored on your device, and your images are never sold or used to train AI models (see our privacy policy).
Be honest about the result: the photo must look natural and like you today. Some career advisers, such as a German Federal Employment Agency guide, warn that AI-edited photos can look artificial; if a result looks too smooth, pick another or book a photographer. Compare both in AI headshot vs photographer. A LinkPro photo cannot be used for a passport or ID card, which require biometric photos.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a CV photo cost in Marseille?
In October 2026, Marseille photographers published prices from €80 (Arnaud Leduc, 1st arrondissement, about 30 minutes and 4 retouched photos) and €89 (Studio Vaccaro, 8th arrondissement, one HD image) to €147 (Emilie Laroche, at your workplace, 2 retouched portraits) and €150 (Jote & Suzy, 30 minutes and 5 retouched photos). Outdoor LinkedIn portraits start at €130 at LA Photo Prod.
Do I need a photo on my CV to apply for jobs in Marseille?
No. No French law requires one. The French administration's Service-Public site says the information asked of a candidate must only help assess their skills, and lists physical appearance among the prohibited grounds of discrimination. A photo is your choice: add one if it is recent, professional and matches your LinkedIn profile.
What should I wear for a CV photo for a shipping, logistics or port job?
For head-office, sales or finance roles at shipping and logistics groups, a blazer with a plain shirt or blouse works well, with or without a tie. For operational roles on the port or in warehouses, a smart shirt or a knit is enough. Keep the background neutral and the crop head-and-shoulders.
Is an outdoor photo by the Vieux-Port a good idea for a CV?
It can work for LinkedIn or for roles in tourism, hospitality and communication, as long as the background is softly blurred and your face stays the focus. For a CV sent to a hospital, a bank or a public employer, a plain studio or office background remains the safer choice.
Can I use an AI headshot for a job in Marseille?
There is no rule against it, but the photo must look natural and show you as you are today. Some career advisers warn that AI-edited photos can look artificial. Choose the most realistic result, and never use it for a passport or ID card, which require biometric photos.
