Nantes combines a solid industrial base, led by aerospace, with a digital scene of about twenty incubators, a university hospital and a large public sector. Here is when a CV photo makes sense, which style fits which employer, what photographers in and around Nantes charge, and how to get a natural photo without booking a session.
Do you need a photo on your CV in Nantes?
Legally, no. Under article L1221-6 of the French Labour Code, an employer may only ask for information that has a direct and necessary link with the job or with your professional skills. Article L1132-1 adds that no one may be excluded from a recruitment process because of their physical appearance, among other grounds. The law also allows employers to review applications anonymously (article L1221-7), but does not make it compulsory.
So a photo is your choice. If you add one, it should be a professional, recent portrait. Our guide to professional headshots in France covers format, placement and what recruiters expect.
The same photo will appear on LinkedIn and on job portals such as France Travail, Indeed, APEC for managerial roles or Welcome to the Jungle. Use one portrait everywhere, so recruiters recognise you.
Nantes is also a student city: Nantes Université counts 42,000 students, including 5,500 international students. If you are applying for an internship or a work-study contract (alternance), a clean, simple photo is enough.
What CV photo style works in Nantes
According to Insee, Nantes Métropole had about 405,000 jobs in 2023. Trade, transport and services account for 58.2% of them, and public administration, education, health and social care for 27.4%. Industry weighs 8.5%, or more than 34,000 jobs. Managers and higher intellectual professions (cadres) hold 29.8% of all jobs, so many applications will be compared with highly qualified profiles.
Nantes Saint-Nazaire Développement, the metropolitan development agency, names Airbus and Doctolib among the large companies in Nantes, counts about twenty incubators, and lists industry and low-carbon energy, the maritime economy, health and the cultural and creative industries among the area’s main sectors. Nantes Université employs 5,680 staff, and the CHU de Nantes, the university hospital, serves the 800,000 inhabitants of the Nantes and Saint-Nazaire area.
| Sector | Typical employers | Outfit | Background |

Whatever the sector, keep a head-and-shoulders crop, a friendly expression and a photo less than a year old. For colours and fabrics, see what to wear for a professional headshot.
