CV photo in Montpellier: prices, studios and tips

Montpellier is a hospital and university city with a growing health, pharma and digital economy, and a tighter job market than the French average. Here is when a CV photo makes sense, which style fits which employer, what photographers in and around Montpellier charge, and how to get a natural photo without booking a session.
Do you need a photo on your CV in Montpellier?
Legally, no. Under article L1221-6 of the French Labour Code, an employer may only ask for information that has a direct and necessary link with the job or with your professional skills. Article L1132-1 adds that no one may be excluded from a recruitment process because of their physical appearance, among other grounds. The law also allows employers to review applications anonymously (article L1221-7), but does not make it compulsory.
So a photo is your choice. If you add one, it should be a professional, recent portrait. Our guide to professional headshots in France covers format, placement and what recruiters expect.
The same photo will appear on LinkedIn and on job portals such as France Travail, Indeed, APEC for managerial roles or Welcome to the Jungle. Use one portrait everywhere, so recruiters recognise you.
The local job market makes a careful application worthwhile. According to France Travail Occitanie, the unemployment rate in the Montpellier employment area was 9.7% in the third quarter of 2024, against 7.2% for mainland France, with 64,580 registered jobseekers in categories A, B and C at the end of 2024.
What CV photo style works in Montpellier
According to Insee, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole had about 258,000 jobs in 2023. Trade, transport and services account for 53.2% of them, and public administration, education, health and social care for 34.8%, a high share. Industry weighs only 5.3%.
Health dominates. The metropolitan development agency says the CHU de Montpellier, the university hospital, employs more than 12,000 staff, making it the third-largest employer in Occitanie, and counts more than 200 health companies with 7,500 jobs, including Sanofi, HORIBA Medical and Bausch+Lomb. The same agency counts 4,400 digital businesses and 7,300 digital jobs in the metropolitan area. The Université de Montpellier had 52,732 students and 4,395 apprentices in 2023-2024.
| Sector | Typical employers | Outfit | Background |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hospital, research, public sector | CHU de Montpellier, Université de Montpellier, local authorities | Sober: plain top, jacket optional | Plain grey or white |
| Pharma and medtech | Sanofi, HORIBA Medical, Bausch+Lomb | Blazer, plain shirt or blouse | Neutral studio |
| Digital and start-ups | Software firms, studios, start-ups | Business casual: shirt, knit, unstructured blazer | Light office or plain backdrop |
| Internships and work-study | Any sector | Clean and simple: plain shirt or top | Plain light backdrop |
Whatever the sector, keep a head-and-shoulders crop, a friendly expression and a photo less than a year old. Montpellier’s sunshine is no reason for sunglasses or a terrace backdrop. For colours and fabrics, see what to wear for a professional headshot.

Published prices, October 2026:
| Studio | What you get | Price |

In short, a short business portrait costs €39 to €59 in the Montpellier area, three to five photos €79 to €99, and a longer session with more retouched photos €150 to €200. Some studios, such as Arnaud Reichert on Place Jean-Jaurès, only quote on request.
Watch for costs that are not in the headline price:
- Promotions and conflicting pages. Studio des Anges’ €39 is a promotional price, shown on a page shared by its Lyon and Montpellier studios, and Exil Photo’s general studio page lists lower prices (€25 for one photo) than its corporate page: confirm before booking.
- Extras. Extra photos cost €25 at Studio Voleuse d’images and €13 at Exil Photo beyond ten.
- Travel. Two of these studios are outside the city, in Palavas-les-Flots and Gallargues-le-Montueux.

Your first session is free: 3 watermarked previews, no account needed. To keep a headshot, buy that single headshot in high definition, without watermark, as a one-time purchase with no subscription, or choose LinkPro Unlimited, a weekly subscription with unlimited sessions and restyles that you can cancel anytime. Be strict with the result. It must look natural and like you today, with your features, hair and glasses. In Germany, where CV photos are far more common, a Federal Employment Agency adviser guide warns that AI-edited photos can look artificial. For a side-by-side comparison, read AI headshot vs photographer. A LinkPro photo cannot be used for a passport or ID card, which require biometric photos.
Your selfies are not kept on our servers after generation, your headshots are stored on your device, and your images are never sold or used to train AI models. You can delete your account and photos at any time; details are in our privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a CV photo cost in Montpellier?
In October 2026, Studio des Anges in central Montpellier listed a 30-minute business portrait with 3 photos at €59 (€39 on promotion), and Exil Photo in Palavas-les-Flots one retouched photo at €39 or three at €79. Studio Voleuse d'images charged €85 for a one-hour session with two portraits, Cdesign from €150 and Chris Photos €200 for an individual portrait.
Do I need a photo on my CV to apply for jobs in Montpellier?
No. French law does not require one. Article L1221-6 of the Labour Code limits what an employer may ask a candidate to information directly linked to the job, and article L1132-1 bans excluding anyone from recruitment because of their physical appearance. Adding a photo is your choice; if you do, it must be professional.
Is it worth paying for a photo as a student looking for an internship or alternance in Montpellier?
A simple, sharp portrait is enough. The Université de Montpellier counted 52,732 students and 4,395 apprentices in 2023-2024, so competition for internships and work-study contracts is real, but recruiters judge the CV first. A short studio session from €39 or a natural AI headshot both do the job.
Can I use an AI headshot for a job in Montpellier?
Nothing in the Labour Code addresses it, but the photo must look natural and show you as you are today. Pick the most realistic result, keep your features, hair and glasses, and never use it for a passport or ID card, which require biometric photos.
