# CV photo in Paris: prices, studios and tips

Updated October 15, 2026 · 6 min read

Short answer

In France a CV photo is optional, and the Labour Code bans hiring discrimination based on physical appearance. If you add one in Paris, use a recent, natural head-and-shoulders portrait. Published prices in October 2026 started at €39 for a 20-minute studio session with one retouched photo, €79 to €129 for longer packages, and €385 to €480 excl. VAT at prestige or corporate photographers. Match the style to finance, luxury or tech.

Paris is the centre of the largest regional economy in France: the Paris Region produces 30% of the country’s GDP and, according to Choose Paris Region, has Europe’s highest concentration of Fortune Global 500 headquarters. Banks, luxury houses, consulting firms, start-ups and large public employers all recruit here, each with its own look. Here is what a CV photo costs in Paris, which style fits which employer, and how to get a natural photo without booking a session.

## Do you need a photo on your CV in Paris?

No. A photo is optional in France. The Labour Code (article L1132-1) bans excluding anyone from a recruitment process because of their physical appearance, among other criteria, and article L1221-6 says the information a recruiter asks for must have a direct and necessary link with the job. Randstad France’s 2026 guide sums up the practice: the photo “remains optional”. The rules, format and data protection side are in our [guide to professional headshots in France](/guides/professional-headshots-france/).

For international candidates, it helps to separate two cases:

- **French-language applications** to banks, insurers, luxury houses, retailers or the public sector: a photo is your choice. If you add one, it must be recent and professional; a holiday snap does more harm than no photo.
- **English-language applications** to global firms or start-ups: follow the job ad and the company’s career site. If they ask for a CV without a photo, leave it out.

Whatever you send, Paris recruiters will also look you up on LinkedIn, Welcome to the Jungle or Apec, so use the same photo there.

## What CV photo style works in Paris

The labour market is large and mostly service-based. At the end of the first quarter of 2026, Paris counted 1,979,660 salaried jobs, according to the Paris chamber of commerce (CCI Paris Île-de-France), using INSEE data. Unemployment in Paris was 6.3%, below the regional rate of 7.9%. Paris also recorded a record 36,052 business creations in that quarter, 20.7% more than a year earlier.

The region’s largest employers are public or former public organisations: the Paris hospitals (AP-HP, about 97,200 employees), the City of Paris (65,200), RATP (45,400), then La Poste, Air France, BNP Paribas, SNCF and Société Générale (INSEE data for 2022). Choose Paris Region lists TotalEnergies, BNP Paribas, Société Générale, Crédit Agricole, AXA and Christian Dior among the Fortune Global 500 groups headquartered in the region, and LVMH, Kering, Chanel and Hermès among its luxury houses.

| Sector | Typical employers | Outfit | Background |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Banking, insurance, consulting | BNP Paribas, Société Générale, Crédit Agricole, AXA, consulting firms | Dark suit or blazer, plain shirt or blouse, tie optional | Plain grey, white or light blue |
| Luxury, fashion, cosmetics | LVMH, Kering, Chanel, Hermès | Well-cut, sober outfit; care in the details, no visible logos | Plain light studio backdrop |
| Tech and start-ups | Start-ups, scale-ups, digital teams | Business casual: shirt, knit, unstructured blazer | Light office or plain backdrop |
| Public sector, healthcare, transport | AP-HP, City of Paris, RATP | Simple and neat, blazer or plain top | Neutral, plain |

Whatever the sector, keep it simple: head and shoulders, a friendly expression, a photo that looks like you today. Randstad France suggests about 4 × 5 cm at the top of the CV, next to your contact details. Our guide on [what to wear for a professional headshot](/guides/what-to-wear-for-a-professional-headshot/) covers colours and fabrics.

## A CV photo without a photographer

If you need a photo tonight, or you have just moved to Paris and don’t have time for a studio, LinkPro turns your phone into one:

1. **Take 8 guided selfies.** On-device face detection checks your distance, angle and light live.
2. **Direct your shoot.** Choose your field, a studio or office backdrop and a formal or business casual outfit, for example formal for a bank and business casual for a start-up.
3. **Get your headshots in seconds** and pick the most natural one.
4. **Let friends or colleagues vote** with a poll link before you send your application.

LinkPro is a web app: open it in your browser at [app.linkproapp.ai](https://app.linkproapp.ai), on your phone or computer, in English, French, German or Italian. Nothing to install. Your first session is free, with 3 watermarked previews and no account. To keep one photo, buy a single headshot: a one-time purchase that unlocks one headshot of your choice in HD, without watermark and without subscription. LinkPro Unlimited is a weekly subscription with unlimited sessions and restyles, which you can cancel anytime. Your selfies are not kept on our servers after generation, your headshots are stored on your device, and your images are never sold or used to train AI models (see our [privacy policy](/privacy/)).

Be demanding with the result: the photo must look natural and like you today. Randstad France warns against smoothing filters, because the recruiter must recognise you at the interview. In a conservative sector, a studio photo may still be the safer choice; compare both in [AI headshot vs photographer](/guides/ai-headshot-vs-photographer/). A LinkPro photo cannot be used for a passport or ID card, which require biometric photos.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much does a CV photo cost in Paris?

In October 2026, Paris Photo Studio near Bastille published €39 for a 20-minute session with one retouched photo, and €79 or €129 for longer sessions with make-up. My Shooting Photo offers a free outdoor session and charges €50 for two photos. Studio Harcourt's Executive Portrait costs €385, and Studio Photo Jouffroy charges €480 excl. ### Do I need a photo on my CV to apply for jobs in Paris?

No. A photo is optional in France. The Labour Code bans discrimination based on physical appearance, and a recruiter may only ask for information directly linked to the job. Career advisers such as Randstad France treat it as a free choice. If an international employer asks for an English CV without a photo, leave it out.

### What should I wear for a CV photo for a bank, a luxury house or a start-up in Paris?

For banks, insurers and consulting firms, a dark suit or blazer and a plain shirt or blouse. For luxury and fashion houses, a well-cut, sober outfit with care given to detail rather than logos. For tech companies and start-ups, business casual. Use a plain light background in every case.

### Where should the photo go on a French CV?

At the top of the CV, next to your name and contact details. Randstad France suggests a rectangular photo of about 4 × 5 cm, on a neutral background, with an outfit you would wear to a job interview.

### Can I use an AI headshot for a job in Paris?

No rule forbids it, but the photo must look like you. Randstad France accepts light retouching but warns against smoothing filters, because the recruiter must recognise you at the interview. Choose the most natural result, and never use it for a passport or ID card.
