# CV photo in Milan: prices, studios and tips

Milan is home to Italy’s stock exchange, its fashion houses and many international employers. A banker, a fashion buyer and a software engineer will not need the same photo. Here is what Milan studios charge, which style fits which sector, and how to get a natural photo without booking a session.

## Do you need a photo on your CV in Milan?

Legally, no. Italian law bans any discrimination in access to employment, including in selection criteria (article 27 of the Equal Opportunities Code, Legislative Decree 198/2006), and employment agencies may not pre-select candidates on grounds such as age, sex or origin (article 10 of Legislative Decree 276/2003). Nothing requires a photo. In practice, many Italian candidates add one, and the EU’s Europass CV editor suggests you “add a professional photo”. If you are moving to Milan from abroad, two cases are worth separating:

-   **Italian-language applications** to banks, insurers, law firms or Italian companies: a recent, professional photo at the top of your CV is a safe choice unless the ad says otherwise.
-   **English-language applications** to international groups and start-ups: follow the ad. If it asks for a CV without a photo, leave it out.

One Italian habit you can drop: the consent line many CVs still end with (“I authorise the processing of my personal data…”). Since 2018, Italian privacy law says consent is not needed to process the personal data in an unsolicited CV (article 111-bis of the Privacy Code).

## What CV photo style works in Milan

Milan’s job market is tight. Lombardy’s unemployment rate was 3.0% in 2025, against 6.1% for Italy as a whole, according to Eurostat, and Assolombarda, Milan’s employers’ association, reported it at 2.9% in the second quarter of 2026. In the area of Milan, Monza, Lodi and Pavia, employers published around 450,000 job ads in 2025, and they described 45.6% of the candidates they were looking for as hard to find. Managers, specialists, technicians and skilled workers accounted for two thirds of those ads.

Milan’s exports rose 10.3% year on year in the second quarter of 2026, according to Assolombarda, and in Lombardy they were driven by pharmaceuticals, electronics and transport equipment. The city is also home to Italy’s stock exchange in Piazza Affari, banks such as UniCredit and Mediobanca, and fashion houses such as Armani and Prada.

-   **VAT.** Some Milan photographers quote prices without VAT, which is 22% in Italy. Ask for the total.

Be honest with yourself about the result: the photo must look natural and like you today.
